Preparing for our upcoming planting event
19 April 2021
We are increasing the number of species in our nursery. We hope to break a new record for the number species planted at a single event in East African history.
We have been making great progress ahead of the event. Hole digging has begun: so far we are three quarters of the way. By mid next week we will have all the holes ready.
Manure has been brought to the site to help the trees grow, ensuring good fertilisation and high survival rates.
We are making preparations for our upcoming tree planting event. We hope to break a new record for the most number species planted in East African history.
Afzelia quanzensis seedlings germinating ahead of the tree planting event.
Transporting seedlings from Kivukoni Indigenous Tree Nursery
The seeds have started to germinate and are almost ready to plant. The germination rate of some of the species including Afzelia quanzesis (pod mahogany), Bombax rhodognaphalon (wild kapok) and Combretum schumannii ( sand bushwillow) has been good so far. The seedlings are now ready to be transplanted to bigger bags. We have also collected 1000 seedlings from our partner organisation - Kivukoni Indigenous Tree Nursery.
